Why PDFs get so big
Most of a PDF's size comes from embedded images. A 50-page report with full-resolution screenshots can hit 50 MB+ even though the actual text is tiny. When you compress, you're really recompressing those embedded images at a lower JPEG/WebP quality — which is invisible to the eye at typical screen sizes.
Three real scenarios
Scenario 1: Job application forms that demand a 1 MB PDF
Many HR systems reject uploads over 1-2 MB. Use the "Compress to 500 KB" preset. If it still rejects, try 200 KB.
Scenario 2: Sending a 40-page deck through Outlook
Outlook's default limit is 20 MB. The "Email-ready" preset targets ~300 KB which leaves plenty of room for the email body and other attachments.
Scenario 3: Sharing a scanned book chapter (image-heavy)
For pure scans, the lossless preset usually saves 30-50%. If you need more aggressive compression, use 100 KB preset — text becomes slightly fuzzy but readable.
What "no quality loss" really means
Our "Reduce size, no quality loss" option re-encodes images at 85% quality with no DPI reduction. Text stays crisp (because we never re-rasterize text layers). It's the safest option when you don't know the recipient's expectations.
Privacy check
